Stormers coach went to Saracens in England last week to sit down with utility back Damian Willemse to discuss his future.
Currently on a short-term loan deal at troubled club Sarries, Willemse came off on the bench last weekend as they lost 30-10 to Racing Metro in the Champions Cup.
He replaced Matthew Gallagher at fullback in the 55th minute and despite coming through the system as one of the most promising flyhalves South Africa has ever produced, Willemse has been asked to operate at the back of the line over the last year or so.
And according to Dobson, the player is now starting to believe that his future is probably in this position.

Dobson says: “I went out with him for a beer last week at Saracens - he was saying that he is thinking about 15 again.”
Dobson, though, knows where he wants to use the 21-year-old.
The thought of pairing him with Herschel Jantjies at halfback is not only an exciting one for Stormers fans, but for Springbok fans as well.
Dobson says of what is expected of Willemse once he returns from England: “His role over here will be primarily at 10.”
