Thato Mokeke has called on his Cape Town City teammates to tighten up their defence ahead of Sunday’s PSL clash against unbeaten Swallows.
City have leaked the most goals in the division to date, conceding 25. Their saving grace, though, has been their attack, who are also the most deadly, with 27 strikes.
And defensive midfielder Mokeke has urged his team to stay compact when losing the ball, so they can close down opposition counter attacks.
Ahead of the Swallows date, Mokeke says: “The defensive problems aren’t just down to the defence. It’s the team as a whole.“We have been caught out of position by teams and they get through us easily. So that’s something we have to work on because we score a lot of goals. We just have to stop conceding.”
The last time the teams meet, the Birds hit City hard on the counter, winning 3-2 in January.
And Mokeke knows just how tough it will be, adding: “We are facing a team that is unbeaten in the league.
“It will be a mountain to climb.
“But since we’re playing in Cape Town, we have the advantage. We need the points to stay with the pack. We have to give it our best.”
