England naughty boys Mason Greenwood and Phil Foden have been kicked out of Gareth Southgate’s squad for breaking Covid-19 protocols by sneaking women into their hotel rooms.
The pair made their debuts for the Three Lions in their 1-0 win over Iceland on Saturday, but their national team adventure is over ahead of tonight’s Uefa Nations League clash against Denmark.
Manchester City midfielder Foden, 20, and Man United’s Mason Greenwood, 19, were caught with their hands in the cookie jar by the eagle-eyed Icelandic press, who saw Snapchat videos of the manne jolling with female company at their Reykjavik hotel.
In an interview, one of the girls in the Snapchat video allegedly filmed in the hotel room said: “We had no idea about these [Covid-19] rules, they never said we could not take pictures.”
England boss Southgate says of the pair: “Obviously they have been naive, we have dealt with it appropriately.
“I recognise their age but the whole world is dealing with this pandemic.”
United sent out a statement, slamming their teenage striker Greenwood, who enjoyed a breakthrough season last term.
The club says: “Manchester United are liaising with the Football Association and are disappointed with the actions of Mason Greenwood over this situation.”
Foden’s club City adds: “It is clear that Phil’s actions were totally inappropriate.
“His behaviour not only directly contravenes strict guidelines related to Covid-19, but also falls well below the standard expected of a
Manchester City player and England international.”
Meanwhile, City also confirmed that winger Riyad Mahrez and defender Aymeric Laporte tested positive for Covid-19 and will quarantine for 14 days.
