After a cagey first half at Dobsonville Stadium, the game flickered into life just before the break.
With both teams’ defences on top, a mistake in the Stellies backline gave the Birds a chance to swoop in the 43rd minute.
And after Tebogo Langerman charged down a Stellies clearance on the right flank, he cut back from the byline for Ruzaigh Gamildien to score with the defence caught pushing out.
But the visitors hit back immediately, as Deano van Rooyen scored his maiden PSL goal. The 24-year-old rightback passed up to Judas Moseamedi and kept running forward.
Moseamedi touched on to Stanley Dimgba on the wing and the Nigerian picked out Van Rooyen arriving on the penalty spot unmarked to tie the game up at half time.
