There’s a new meaning to breakfast in bed at Smile 90.4FM
The breakfast show presenters Bobby Brown and Lindy Hibbard are doing their bit for the homeless of Cape Town.
The two have partnered with The Haven Shelter, who charge mense R12 a night, and an overnight stay includes a lekker warm shower, a hot meal, and a safe and warm place to sleep.
Bobby and Lindy have now appealed to listeners to “buy a bed” for the needy, at R12 a pop.
The pair’s first target on Monday was to raise funds for 9 040 beds.
But generous listeners exceeded all expectations, and by Tuesday, they made double that amount.
Yesterday, they upped the stakes to 50 000 beds by Friday, and it doesn’t even seem like a leap, because by yesterday morning they’d already reached 30 000 beds.
An elated Sarah Jacobs, Marketing Manager for Smile 90.4FM, tells the Daily Voice: “The support for our drive has been absolutely phenomenal, when we originally set the target, we were not sure it was possible, but with the outstanding support, continue supporting our drive as the more we raise, the more warmth you will help us share this winter!”
There are 14 Haven Night Shelters in Cape Town for those who need a safe and warm place to sleep at night.
