Five months ago this woman’s life changed forever when she was left paralysed after being shot by her ex-husband who then turned the gun on himself.
Today Elsanne Kamffer, 47, has started a blog on Facebook called “My journey back” and has become an inspiration to all.
The Kraaifontein woman was discharged from hospital recently and even went back to work last week.
Her journey was made a little easier by Smile 90.4FM, who along with listeners, created a wheelchair-friendly kitchen for Elsanne.
The Smile to the Rescue campaign, with breakfast show hosts Bobby Brown and Lindy Hibbard, decided to assist Elsanne after a colleague called in to the station on 5 March.
The colleague, identified as Lauren, had been present on 30 October 2017 when Elsanne, a sales manager at Presentation Software Training in Tyger Valley, was shot in the head and arm by her ex-husband, Kobus, at her work.
KWAAI: Special new kitchen
He committed suicide, while Elsanne survived but was left paralysed from the waist down.
Generous Smile FM listeners contributed to making life more comfortable for Elsanne.
Jano from Woodspeck Designs offered to design and build a new kitchen for her, and then Stuart from Timber City called and said they would supply all the wood and countertops.
This was followed through by Chris Fransisco Projects who said they would provide the paint and the labour.
Her shower was also widened, but still needs a shower chair.
Speaking to the Daily Voice, Elsanne says she’s still overwhelmed by it all: “On Smile 90.4FM, people who didn’t even know me showed me they cared and I am so grateful.”
