Charl Langeveldt is hard at work not only upskilling himself as a coach, but plotting and planning to build a mean Proteas machine.
With Dale Steyn coming to the end of his career, long-time servants Vernon Philander and Morne Morkel no longer available to the national team, South Africa needs a new pace bowling attack.
Incumbents Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje and Lungi Ngidi have the ability to develop into a world-class trio.
Langes, though, is already looking at the next generation of fast bowlers and would have been in camp with them now if it wasn’t for the coronavirus.
The Proteas’ bowling coach explains: “We are looking around for the up and coming fast
bowlers.
“We were supposed to have a camp starting on April 19 for six days, but that had to be cancelled because of the virus, but we are definitely looking because you always have to have replacements.
“There have been a few names that have popped up, Lifa Ntanzi, Gerald Coetzee, there’s Glenton Stuurman, Stefan Tait and then obviously Lutho Sipamla, who’s been brilliant in the national setup.
“So there’s a few out there and these are the guys that will be the back-up for the national team and they are the ones we want to see.”
