Manchester United finally won their first Premier League game at Old Trafford this season.
United edged winless West Brom 1-0 thanks to a twice-taken penalty by Bruno Fernandes on Saturday to get three points at home at the fourth time of asking this term.
Looking for back-to-back wins this season after inconsistent start to the campaign, The Red Devils were nowhere near their best and were lucky to when it came to crucial calls in the penalty area.
Just before the halftime break, Fernandes was penalised for his tackle on Conor Gallagher when referee David Coote.
But the ref overturned his decision after a VAR review despite the Portuguese midfielder making contact. And Fernandes got lucky again when a harsh handball call on Darnell Furlong when gave him the chance to score for United from the spot.
After United old boy Sam Johnstone saved his initial attempt, ref Coote ordered a retake after Johnstone had come off his line and Fernandes made no mistake at the second go.
And Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits United got the rub of the green.
He says: “I thought at the time, live, that it was a penalty.
“But when you look at the video, Bruno gets the ball first.
“So he gets the ball first and then maybe he touches him slightly but I think it’s the right decision.”
Following the first success at their home ground this term, the Norwegian adds:
“We needed that win at home. We looked unsettled towards the end even though we should score one or two more to have a more relaxed finish.
“Tight margins decide games but the mood is decided by the results. It’s up to us to create momentum.”
