Mamelodi Sundowns completed the domestic treble this season by winning the Nedbank Cup on the pitch on Saturday night to add to their PSL and TKO titles, but there was a hitch.
Immediately after the game, clinched by Gaston Sirino’s late goal from the edge of the box, 1-0 losers Bloem Celtic lodged a complaint with the PSL due to the Brazilians having suspended defender Tebogo Langerman on the bench.
While the player never took to the field, the rules are clear that suspended players may not “be dressed in their game uniform, and they may not take part in any warm-up activities”.
The PSL is yet to put out a statement clearing the situation and what sort of punishment Downs will be handed.
Mosimane defended having Langerman on the bench after it appeared like the coach was ready to bring him on late in the game, but was stopped by a fourth match official.
Bra Jingles says: “You know my opinion about football, you must win football on the pitch. If you have to win outside the pitch because there’s something like this or that... okay, if you win you win, you know how you won.
“I don’t do admin at the club, I don’t do that. I focus on coaching the team and if I have reports on certain issues, of course, I can’t be a coach who doesn’t observe all those things.
“But I don’t know about that. I’m not aware at this point in time. The management will have to tell us about all this.
“But you must win on the pitch, neh? Imagine you are going to raise the trophy... ‘Oh, by the way, there was this thing’ and where’s the trophy? And then you celebrate. I mean really.”
