Former Proteas opening batsman Theunis de Bruyn led a harregat comeback by the Titans on Day Two of their Sunfoil Series clash against the Cape Cobras in Pretoria on Tuesday.
With the hosts having been bowled out for just 122 runs in their first innings, the Cobras responded with a mammoth 337 all out for a lead of 215 runs.
But the Titans clawed their way back into the encounter, with De Bruyn leading from the front with his unbeaten knock of 127.
Early indications yesterday, though, looked favourable for coach Ashwell Prince’s Cobras.
Having resumed their overnight score on 256/8, allrounder Jason Smith's 92 helped his team to their total.
With their tails up, Cobras speedster Dane Paterson then got the wicket of Proteas opener Dean Elgar, clean bowled for six in the Titans’ second innings, before Tony de Zorzi knocked a solid 47 runs to lift the hosts to 70/3.
Zorzi's wicket saw De Bruyn and Jonathan Vandiar (98) join forces to make a game out of the encounter again.
The pair shared a 230-run stand for the fourth wicket to take the Titans to 300/4 when Dane Piedt had Vandiar removed before Junior Dala (0) followed soon after to leave the Pretoria side on 301/5 overnight.
