The Cape Cobras’ bowling attack would have gotten a straight two-hour detention for their stoutgat maniere in the T20 Challenge this week.
In their last two outings, the Capetonians conceded no fewer than 45 extra runs.
It all started on Monday against the Knights when they gave their opposition a total of 27 extra runs that ultimately cost them the game.
Together they bowled a total of 10 wides – three apiece by Corbin Bosch and Calvin Savage, and Ziyaad Abrahams and George Linde chipping in with a double each.
Captain Tony de Zorzi would have been an unhappy skipper in that encounter, but then the same thing happened the next day against the Warriors.
Luckily for the Cobras, they managed to get the result this time around despite conceding 18 runs through extras (15 of which came via wides, with Tshepo Moreki bowling four wasted deliveries).
As they gear up to face the Lions in their final group match tomorrow, De Zorzi says of his bowlers: “It’s very frustrating. One of the skills I’m having to learn [as captain] is keeping my body language under control in those kinds of situations.
“The guys are aware of it, they are not hiding from it. They know they can be better. Hopefully tomorrow it can be a lot cleaner.”
