Manchester United caretaker coach Michael Carrick says he has not been given a game plan by incoming interim coach Ralf Rangnick for Arsenal’s Premier League visit tonight (10.15pm).
With Rangnick’s work visa still being processed, Carrick will take the reins for the third game - a 2-0 win at Villarreal and 1-1 draw with Chelsea - since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking.
With the fifth-placed Gunners heading to Old Trafford looking for back-to-back wins for the first time in the Premier League era, Carrick says he will fight man alleen.
Asked if he has had any contact with Rangnick since United announced his arrival on Monday, Carrick says: “No. It’s pretty much as it was when I said there with the games we’ve already been through, because of the process and work permit we haven’t been able to, we’ve carried on.
“It’s worked well the last two games and hopefully will [tonight].”
Red Devils midfielder Fred, who could team up with captain Harry Maguire with his suspension over, hints that United will play more attacking football as opposed to the massed defensive formations in Carrick’s previous games.
The Brazilian says: “It will be a tough game. But we’re playing at home and we will look to impose our game and come away with the win.”
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, meanwhile, has no idea how United will play tactically, but he knows it will be a test for his team, who are waiting to see if winger Bukayo Saka will shake off a knock he picked up in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Newcastle.
Arteta says: “You know what to expect when you go to that stadium and play in front of that crowd. They are a team, a squad that is one of the most talented in the league.”
