World heavyweight boxing champion Manuel Charr has
returned a positive doping test and and an upcoming title defence
against Fres Oquendo has been cancelled, his management said
Thursday.
Charr, a 33-year-old Syrian now based in Cologne, tested positive for
two banned substances but protested his innocence.
"I'm totally shocked by the news and I'm still crying," he told the
Cologne newspaper Express.
Charr will request the analysis of his B sample but in the meantime
his management saw no alternative but to call off the bout for the
WBA belt scheduled for September 29 in his adopted home city.
