The Blitzbokke kick off their Olympic Games preparations in Stellenbosch this weekend after their Spain trip was can- celled due to Covid-19 travel restrictions.
The Springboks Sevens were meant to compete alongside Tokyo 2020 medal rivals Fiji, New Zealand and Australia, but instead will now take on Russian club side Narvskaya Zastava – coached by ex-Blitzbok Vuyo Zangqa.
New SA Rugby Sevens Academy coach Sandile Ngcobo and his manne will join the Springbok Sevens, the Stellenbosch Academy of Sport Sevens Academy and the Russian club side in the mini-tournament.
And Ngcobo says: “It is a first time out for all of us, so there are excitement and eagerness, no doubt.
“For the Academy it will be a tournament where we not only get the chance to face the Blitzboks who is of international standard, but some overseas opponents in Vuyo’s squad and well as some serious talent in the SAS squad.”
