You win some and you lose some. And in the case of keeping rugby players in South Africa, it’s 1-1 after this past weekend.
Springbok centre Lukhanyo Am extended his stay at the Sharks, despite some interest from overseas clubs.
The Durbanites tweeted: “Our Sharks captain Lukhanyo Am has been locked down and reloaded with Sharks until 2022.”
They also tried to tie down fellow World Cup winner Kwagga Smith, but the loose forward decided to extend his deal with Yamaha Jubilo in Japan by two years.
Of his decision to snub the Sharks and former team the Lions who were also reportedly interested in his services, Smith tells Rapport: “I am very happy at the club.
“It has been a very uncertain time for the sports industry. Nobody knew what was going to happen with rugby here [in South Africa].”
