Eish. What a weekend Allister Coetzee has to look forward to.
First thing, he will have to grill as team manager Ian Schwartz mispronounces all the African names on the squad sheet as the whole nation ticks off the manne they would have picked.
And then, he will go home and wait for the barrage of criticism his 31-man group cops from the Twitterverse and the Sunday newspapers.
It’s not going to be a weekend of braai en ’n lekker borrel rooiwyn.
There will be questions over his selections - ’ n hele klompie.
And that’s down to the form of the players he would have had in mind.
Some of those will make the cut, but I really hope Toetie is not a man who has favourites.
He has been around to the country’s Super Rugby teams and spoken to the coaches and the players.
I hope that they have been productive and that he has evaluated the quality, abilities and form of the players available to him.
And finally, that he picks the players that are at the top of their game and that these are the manne that he will use to against the Irish for the three Tests in June.
Toetie obviously has a game plan in mind. But if he does that, he will somma alienate a vrag players.
He has until now played his cards close to his chest. But once he makes the announcement of his squad, then we will get some idea of what aces he may have up his sleeve.
As Capetonians, I hope we are pleasantly surprised by the way Toetie’s Bokke play.
By the time that he had left Newlands, his team had become stale when playing Super Rugby. The Stormers were blunt in attack compared to the adventure that his Currie Cup side had displayed.
So we have seen that the former scrumhalf can imagine rugby in different ways.
Let’s just hope that he can strike a balance between winning and an eye-catching style.
Oh and if you were wondering whether I was going to talk about Toetie meeting the transformation targets imposed on him, forget about it.
The man will pick the players he wants and coach them. And it will look like a more South African team than we have ever seen.
