Proteas fans will not do their team any good if they go after Steve Smith and David Warner, according to legendary Australian allrounder Steve Waugh.
With Australia currently on a limited overs tour in South Africa, Smith and Warner are expected to get some stick from the South African crowd after they were banned following their involvement in the ball-tampering saga during their last visit to our shores.
Waugh knows comments sal deurloop, but he warns South Africans that it will be to their own team’s detriment.
He tells Sport24: “They’ll welcome it with open arms. There’ll be a few comments, and that’s all part of the game.
“They’ll expect it. They got that in England it didn’t work. Look at Steve Smith in that first Test match at Edgbaston ... the crowds were booing him constantly and he got 140 in each innings.
“I’d say to South African crowds ‘go for it’ because it will motivate these players and they’ll score runs.”
