Cricket South Africa named uncapped Reeza Hendricks and Junior Dala in their ODI squad for their tour to Sri Lanka next month.
Lions batsman Hendricks gets his chance to shine after scoring a 70 in one of his three T20I knocks against India at the start of the year and Titans paceman Dala took six wickets in nine One-Day Cup matches this year and is set for debut at the age of 28.
Meanwhile, CSA selections convenor Linda Zondi explains that they are auditioning for Imran Tahir’s spin deputy for next year’s World Cup with Tabraiz Shamsi and Keshav Maharaj in contention.
Zondi says: “As far as the Proteas squad is concerned, we have taken the strategic decision to rest Imran Tahir so that we can get a clearer picture as to who our best second spinner is to back him up at the World Cup.
“Imran will be our first-choice spinner at the World Cup but, if we play him against Sri Lanka, it is unlikely that we will be able to play both Tabraiz Shamsi and Keshav Maharaj. By taking this route, we will be able to play the two of them together.”
The squad will also play in a one-off T20 International on August 14.
