Ajax Cape Town have laughed off claims that they tried to bribe Uthongathi FC player Cheslyn Jampies R100 000 to throw their NFD match last weekend.
The Urban Warriors beat the KZN side 3-1, but afterwards Uthongathi media officer Nkosinathi Chili revealed to Kickoff that some of their players were approached to throw the game.
Ajax CEO Ari Efstathiou, though, tells Kickoff:“It’s the easiest thing to spread a rumour, I mean every match we play we hear other teams have tried the same thing.
“It’s nonsense. I wouldn’t waste a minute on it. Ajax have a huge reputation in the community of Cape Town and the Western Cape. We will never do such nonsense.”
Log-leading Ajax have 32 points after 15 matches ahead of this weekend’s Cape derby against Steenberg United.
