Steenberg United put some glow on what was otherwise a gloomy weekend for Cape sides in the GladAfrica Championship this past weekend.
Steenberg bounced back to winning ways, beating Swallows 2-1 at Athlone Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
This was the Safa Western Cape ABC Motsepe League champions’ second win since winning promotion to the NFD, and as a result sit pretty in eighth place.
While Steenberg is on the rise, things are not looking good for Cape Umoya after they lost 2-0 to league leaders JDR Stars away at Soshanguve Giant Stadium on Saturday.
Umoya are now lingering in 11th place, which is not ideal for a team that has added a lot of experienced players and set clear ambitions of getting promotion.
It was also not a good afternoon for Ajax Cape Town at Kameelrivier Stadium on Sunday afternoon, where they visited Nedbank Cup champions TS Galaxy.
The Urban Warriors fell to a 1-0 defeat and are also losing ground on their rivals for promotion.
Cape Umoya will be looking to turn around their fortunes when they face Steenberg United in what is expected to be an exciting local derby at Athlone Stadium on Friday.
Meanwhile, Ajax Cape Town will welcome Royal Eagles to the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.
