Cape Town City have received a blow with the news that central defender Taariq Fielies will miss the first six months of the new season following an appendix operation which went wrong.
What is puzzling is that Fielies had the procedure at a state hospital without even informing the club, something which has taken City chairman John Comitis by surprise.
"Only when he went back to Groote Schuur hospital due to the malfunction of his operation did he tell us about his situation," Comitis told KickOff.
"I then moved him to Christiaan Barnard private hospital for a full evaluation, he was there for four days. After they managed to put him on the recovery, we moved him back to Groote Schuur for the rehabilitation."
Comitis has now stated he wants players to inform him and the club if they have any problems so he can make sure they receive the best health care.
The Citizens are due to start their Premiership campaign with an away clash against Baroka FC on August 3 at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.
