New Cape Town City coach Jan Olde Riekerink says he will bring back a winning mentality to the PSL strugglers ahead of his first game in charge at Bloemfontein Celtic on Wednesday evening (7.30pm).
City sacked Benni McCarthy at the start of the month after just one in their first nine league matches, before caretaker Vasili Manousakis oversaw a win and a loss while Dutchman Riekerink waited on his work permit.
City, though, scored 19 goals, joint most in the league, but were undermined by a defence that leaked 20 goals. And while Cape fans demand to be entertained, Riekerink says his first priority is results.

The former Ajax Amsterdam youth coach tells HeartFM: “I play a winning style of football. The aim of the game is to win the game.
“I would prefer we score as many goals a possible or at least one more than the opponent will you a result.
“But the first aim is to win. And I hope in an attractive way.”
And the team is raring to get that winning feeling back in the coach’s South African football debut when they rock up at the Dr Molemela Stadium.

Citizens skipper Thami Mkhize says: “We need to focus on the work and get results under the new coach. It will be very important that we welcome him with a win in his first match in charge and I believe we will do that.”
City will be without injured star striker Kermit Erasmus, while Thabo Nodada and Thato Mokeke are both suspended.
