With the likes of Antonio Conte and Zinedine Zidane linked with his job, Manchester United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he won’t quit.
#OleOut was again trending on social media on Sunday night following United’s humiliating 5-0 defeat to Liverpool at Old Trafford.
Trailing 4-0 at the break, Solskjaer was booed off the park by the Red Devils’ own fans.
But despite calls for his head, Solskjaer remains harregat.
With United in seventh with only four wins from nine matches, he told Sky Sports after losing to Liverpool: “It’s the darkest day I’ve had leading these players…
“You can look back at last season when we lost 6-1 to Spurs – this is miles worse. The opposition as well, that makes it miles worse for me as a Manchester lad and we have to get over this as quick as we can and move on.”
Maar hy gaan nerens, saying: “We’ve come too far as a group and we’re too close to give up now…
“I do believe in myself, I do believe that I am getting close to what I want with the club, I think what we’ve done, what I’ve seen, the development, of course, the results lately haven’t been good enough.
“But I've got to keep strong and I do believe in what we’ve been doing, the coaching staff and the players.”
With Solskjaer not quitting, it will be up to United’s bosses to sack him – something ex-Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes they should do as quickly as possible.
Carragher says: “Manchester United need a better manager. Ole is not a manager for Manchester United…
“Unfortunately, Solskjaer is not Jurgen Klopp, Pep Guardiola or Thomas Tuchel. It’s staring you in the face.”
With ex-Chelsea boss Conte and former Real Madrid mentor Zidane, both unattached, being mentioned as possible replacements, ex-United ace Gary Neville says: “I don’t think they have planned for a new manager this season. I think they will sit with him until the end of the season.”
While Solskjaer might not want to leave, it is rumoured that the club’s bosses are seriously considering letting him go before they face Tottenham in the league on Saturday.
