They say you don’t win anything in November.
But you have admit that Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Manchester City felt like a decisive blow in the Premier League race.
It could have been very different had City come to Anfield with a full-strength defence.
With an out-of-form John Stones and defensive midfield yster Fernandinho at centreback for Pep Guardiola’s team and a fragile Nicolas Otamendi on the bench, you could expect carnage when facing the Liverpool front trio.
Sadio Mane, Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino have been too hot to handle for any team this season.
They were telling in this match, causing all sorts of problems before Salah and Mane struck.
City were just not sharp enough, with Sergio Aguero just inches away from converting chance after chance Kevin de Bruyne created.
City were unlucky to lose 3-1 on Sunday, they matched Liverpool on the pitch.
And Reds coach Jurgen Klopp must be thanking his lucky stars that injuries haven’t been as vicious.
After the dust settled, City are now nine points behind having lost three matches this season due to their centreback problems with star man Aymeric Laporte on the treatment table until next year.
I said after the Frenchman’s injury that it will have a huge impact on how City do, and it’s been catastrophic.
They need a new centreback in January or Liverpool will have a clear run at the title.
While the Reds know that they can take nothing for granted, their fans will know that they have more of chance this year - even better than last year when they, with a nine-point lead, were chased down by City and pipped by one point.
They want nothing else than to win the league, a title that has escaped them for three decades.
I don’t think that Leicester and Chelsea have the depth or the experience to keep their early-season form going.
And that means that this year is finally Liverpool’s year.
If they don’t win the Premier League, it will be the biggest choke job in football history.
