The Free State Cheetahs must play like they are playing in a World Cup final when they host the Golden Lions in the Currie Cup decider on Saturday.
According to coach Franco Smith, who will leave the union at the end of the match, this encounter is as big as it gets.
With the Free Staters not playing Super Rugby any more - instead they are playing in the European Pro14 - local derbies don’t come around that often.
And Smith tells TimesLive: “If you don’t work from the start as if you are going to play in the World Cup final you are never going to be the best you can be.
“This is a Currie Cup final and players’ dreams aren’t just from game to game but you play for the big reward.
“My motivation to the players is not be nervous in a final.”
“You work every day as if you are preparing for a final, irrespective what game you’re preparing for.”
