This World Cup is still England’s to lose according to captain Eoin Morgan.
Having suffered an embarrassing 64-run defeat to arch-rivals Australia on Tuesday, the tournament hosts are in real danger of missing out on a semifinal spot.
With matches against India and New Zealand left to play, the pre-tournament favourites now have to win at least one of those huge showdowns, possibly both, if they want to make it to the final four.
With fans and media slamming his team after their third defeat of the tournament, Morgan says: “Our chances are still strong, everything is within our control.
“We just need to produce a performance worthy of winning one or two of those games.”
Star all-rounder Ben Stokes adds: “This is our World Cup. We’ve had great support over the last four years and we know how much a World Cup means to fans. We know that as players as well. We’re not going to take a backward step.”
