Beautiful lady, butchered our national anthem on Saturday. Our beloved Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika has been the victim of many an assassination before the latest one in Salta .
Think Ras Dumisani and Ard Matthews. This time, though, it wasn’t the singer alone that didn’t know what was klapping.
There were little children who accompanied the Boks onto the field. And while there was a plan for them to perform some sort of “dance”, they too had no idea what to do and when to do it.
Not only did Campos not know the words, but the sound system also didn’t play along.
Raymond Rhule was the one Bok that looked like he saw the funny side, smiling throughout the anthem.
Anyway, this wasn’t the only disappointment of the weekend.
There was also the Conor McGregor no-show against Floyd Mayweather. The big Money Fight simply didn’t match the hype as McGregor was TKO’d in the 10th round.
I’m actually glad he lost. It will teach sport stars to stick to their respective disciplines. If McGregor beat Mayweather, I believe, we would have seen a lot more crossover matches or fights in sport.
Imagine the New York Yankees beating the Proteas in cricket. It just wouldn’t have been cricket.
