Spring, officially, has sprung.
Never mind the weather, it’s bound to warm up some time, but do mind the cabbie.
After a long winter, further compounded by water restrictions, it’s likely time to pay attention not only to your home, but to give the runabout a good Spring clean too.
Start with a good wash. Whether you go for the bucket system using your grey water, or a waterless wash with the pros, getting the winter mud and grime off your paintwork is a must. Plus we live by the sea, so getting seaspray and the infernal rust-causing salt off your car is essential. A good wash also extends the life of our paintwork. Go the extra mile and wax your car afterwards too to protect from the summer sun. Then go one more and scrub the tyres with a stiff brush and product. If you can access a power hose, get to mud stuck to the underbody.
Now climb inside with a bag and get to decluttering the interior. Amazing how stuff accumulates inside, from chip packets to receipts. Interestingly enough, clutter can cause you a headache in that it adds to your stress levels. So what better way than to go into summer chilled.
While you’re in there, clean the dash and the upholstery, and vacuum the carpets. Cars can be a breeding ground for bacteria so doing this not only keeps you healthy, but makes the eyes happy too.
What’s under the hood? A good engine cleaner will rinse off clingy gunk so you can see, and prolong the life of your powerplant. Then comes the boot, a repository for everything you had no place to put through winter. Get in there, chuck stuff away or store it, but clean it. Does wonders for the mind not having some heavy object banging around through the bends.
