NFD newcomers Steenberg United are aiming to get off to a fast start to their campaign by getting their pre-season preparations underway this week already.
The Safa Western Cape ABC Motsepe League champions are considering beefing up with local players that have some handy top-flight experience.
Some of the free agents that could be interesting additions to head coach Mike Lukhubene’s squad and available are players such as former AmaZulu defender Ayabulela Konqobe and journeyman midfielder Zephaniah Mbokoma, who have solid top NFD and PSL experience.
The Magic FC, who played in the Nedbank Cup last-16 against Kaizer Chiefs, is selling their ABC Motsepe status and Steenberg could consider absorbing a few of those players for the tough test ahead.

It’s still unclear when Ajax Cape Town will complete the transaction that will see them swop their NFD status with a PSL club.
They have made offers to both Bloemfontein Celtic and Highlands Park, but nothing has been finalised as yet.
Meanwhile, Cape Umoya has confirmed a merger with Old Mutual Football Academy to form the Cape Umoya Academy as their youth development ranks. They will take over the Mutual facilities in Pinelands as their base.
They are set to host open trials for their first team for June 24-28. An open invitation has gone out for players with aspirations for NFD football to go and try their luck.
