It was a weekend of close encounters in Super League B.
Primrose narrowly got the better of their hosts Vineyards (19-17) as both teams played their first matches of the new campaign, log leaders Kuilsrivier had to sweat to beat Hands & Heart 18-6, Kraaifontein lost to visitors Hamlets 25-19, while Helderberg and Collegians both could only score 10 points in their matches but it was enough to beat Bellville and Rangers respectively.
The wet pitches certainly didn’t make for the most entertaining brand of rugby last weekend.
But one team that did manage to turn on the style was All Saints, who against all odds travelled to Pniel Villagers and actually beat their hosts 26-15.
Coach Jeremy Jansen’s boys had to wait for a late try by replacement Winslou de Lange to seal the points after their initial game was postponed due to a wet field earlier in the campaign.
Next up for for the Saints is a visit to Kraaifontein, who haven’t won a match in three outings yet this season.
And while it’s still early days, Jansen’s team is showing that they might be one of the dark horses to watch in SLB this season.
