In my opinion, Yuzriq Meyer currently has to be the biggest influencer on the social media frontline of the Cape Flats.
There might be some who have more followers or a bigger reach on their Facebook pages, but this entertainer has been around for a very long time, producing content consistently and he deserves respect for being a trailblazer.
His content may not always be to everyone’s taste, but he has been a very successful online presence for as long as I’ve know him.
Being able to maintain your social media platforms on the daily is already hard, but remaining
relevant is even harder and this star has done both.
He holds down one of the hottest shows on air at Bush Radio which allows him the freedom to be
creative in his own unique way.
I admit I have also at times been shocked by some of the loudmouthed comments Yuzriq makes online, but his followers are clearly looking for straightforward commentary, which Meyer so boldly delivers time after time.
When asked how the lockdown is treating him, Yuzriq said: “The lockdown has been a complete change in life.
“Even though I have been working since the lockdown began, it’s been a change not seeing anybody in person and not being able to go out and see my friends and family.
“Life completely changed. It feels almost unreal.
“But at the same time the break from the rat race is truly welcomed because I had some time to do a lot of thinking and restoring my energy for life.
“In essence, it has pros and cons, but now I’m just waiting for all this Covid-19 stuff to pass by so I can get back to normal life.”
CREATIVE: Yuzriq brings his own flavour to his show on Bush Radio
He hasn’t been idle and says: “I have been keeping busy by making videos, spending more time with my family, catching up on series on Netflix and then of course lekker laat slaap because it’s not like I’ve got anywhere to be during the day.”
On the plus side, social media platforms are swarming with viewers, so people like him are making more content and the creatives have been putting out some lekker funny videos.
There’s been no shortage of Covid-19 awareness, coupled with a lot of humourous content to keep everyone smiling during the lockdown.
Yuzriq has come under fire a few times in the past few weeks for some of his content, but he always manages to have a comeback and never gives up, saying that his social platform is not made for “high brow mense”.
“It’s for people who want an honest, straightforward Kaapse style opinion and if you don’t like it, get off my page,” he said in one of his popular public social service announcements.
I sometimes look at this guy and think yoh, this bra is brave the way he stands up for himself to people who don’t have the faintest idea who he is as a person, but are drawing assumptions off one post.
Talking about the Coronavirus, Yuzriq has this to say: “My advice about the virus is that we should definitely adhere to the precautions to help flatten the curve.
“Bly binne if you have no reason to be outside.
“Was jou hanne and make sure you wear your mask.
“Let’s all just do our part to help make the effects of this all a bit less so we can all go back to normal life.”
I have mad respect for this bra because he can be really crazy the one moment and then he can be the most sensible bra in the next.
He also takes a lot of pride in his beloved Kaapstad.
To his fans, he had this to say: “Thank you for always supporting me, reading all my posts, sharing all my videos, tuning into Bush Radio every morning to listen to my show and for sending me messages. You guys have made the lockdown all the more easier. Julle maak my dag met julle liefde.”
With that said, love him or hate him, this superstar DJ and influencer is going to be around for a very long time.
He has become an icon to the youth and that is a fan base that is growing daily.
