A pastor, who feeds hundreds of children daily together with other organisations, has begun feeding stray dogs during lockdown as well.
Since last week, Pastor Mark Nicholson of Lavender Hill has been putting out bowls of fresh water and dog food for stray hondjies who he says are starving to death because no-one is putting out scraps anymore.
Pastor Mark is a well-known face in his community, and runs a soccer club, through the Lavender Hill Sports & Recreational Foundation which has over 300 young members.
FEED: Nourishment for stray dogs
He says they often find dogs roaming around while they are feeding children.
He is now appealing to community members to place bowls of dog food and water outside.
“When we are feeding children we often find dogs gathering,” he says.
“People must remember that during lockdown a lot of people are not eating enough and there is not enough food left over for the animals.
“We are finding that at night, dogs are roaming the streets looking for food.
“I decided to start feeding the dogs by placing bowls with dog food and freshwater outside my front gate.”
PROVIDING: Pastor Mark Nicholson
He says they recently received a pet food donation from the Zeekoevlei Yacht Club.
