A group of kind Parkwood residents has been feeding 500
children a day since the Coronavirus outbreak led to school closures a week ago.
Now they’ve doubled their load and they are worried about the impact of the imminent 21-day lockdown.
Yasmine Abrahams from Jabulani Feeding and Learning Centre in Parkwood runs her scheme with the help of various donors, including the Ottery Boyz Bikers Club.
“We feed approximately 500 children per day since the recent outbreak of Coronavirus in South Africa,” she says.
“The schools have closed and the school feeding programmes have ceased, as a result, our daily numbers have doubled and we now cater for approximately 1000 children daily.
“The children are fed a variety of foods, some of which include dahl and rice, samp and beans, soya and tinned fish.
“Some of the items which we include in our food parcels are cooking oil, maize meal, cake wheat flour, jam, peanut butter and more.”
GOOD HEART: Yasmine Abrahams
The challenge to feed people in the impoverished community has become tougher, says Yasmine.
“With the arrival of the Coronavirus pandemic, our parcels have increased in quantity in preparation for the 21 days of nationwide lockdown.
“Due to this, our daily feeding programmes will be on hold from Friday until further notice.
“Our first large food parcel drive will begin on Thursday and will continue to supply the community throughout the lockdown.”
CHARITY: Parkwood kids in line
Yasmine would like to keep feeding the children by collecting food items to delivering them to their homes.
