Bobby Nitro loves a story in which the main character starts out stock standard, some visionary mentor recognises his potential and coaxes that brilliance out of him, the end result being a vast upgrade of the original.
That upgrade is precisely what RGMotorsport of Randburg has done with the V8 Toyota Land Cruiser bakkie, turning it into a delight for the agricultural executive.
Stock standard, it’s a relatively mellow 4.5 litre turbodiesel putting out 151kW and 430Nm, just enough to potter around the farm inclines with. Now the tuner has, through various add-ons, turned it into a V8 to be reckoned with, with 273kw of thrust and 913Nm of torque. That represents an 80% and 112% increase to the stock model, respectively. By any measure, that’s some effective modding.
The conversion includes a 76mm Techniflow exhaust, and fat turbocharger, enlarged intercooler and an upgraded clutch assembly that will stand serious abuse, plus the local Unichip Uni-Q management system.
Rob Green, the founder of RGMotorsport, says: “The longer I’ve been in this game I’ve come to realise that more is, indeed, more.”
The price of the makeover is R180 700, including a six-month, 20 000km warranty.
