When something is said to be everybody’s responsibility, like road safety, this odd thing happens, in that it tends to become no one’s responsibility.
Each person thinks the next person can do the responsibility thing, and they defer the job. However, if you heard that road safety is your personal responsibility, not everyone’s, just yours, then it’s a different story.
And that’s the case, the focus on road safety begins with each and every road user, it is only your actions that can make a difference. Take crossing highways on foot for instance. When you do it, it makes it OK for the next person to do it, and the risk of someone dying is that much more.
Use the bridges, and go in a group if you’re concerned about boewe. Remember that the kids will follow your example, so no text while driving is worth your life, or theirs. The change begins with you. Encourage and stress that no text or call is worth your life - it can wait.
