Over the years the fairest Cape has become a hub for all things petrolhead, with events that are just getting better and better.
Here’s one to diarise and now - the annual Cape Town Motor Show kicks off once again at GrandWest Casino and Entertainment World, on 2 and 3 March, promising a weekend of memorable experiences.
It’s a big one, sprawling from one end of GrandWest to the other, indoor and outdoor, with so much to take in Bobby Nitro has taken it upon himself to bring you 10 of the kwaaiest must-see zones.
If you’ve never done it before, get yourself into a Drift machine and go for a flip with a Pro at the Driftkhana zone. It’s a highly specialised sport, so jump in as passenger and get the full throttle thrill for the price of a ticket, purchased separately at the show or through Computicket.
The Grand Arena, like last year, will sport some of the year’s newest and coolest models for top manufacturers in South Africa. This year see displays from Maserati, BMW, Shelby, Lexus, Mazda, Toyota, Suzuki, among others. Best of all, several of the brands will offer test drives on-site.

If you’re a fan who prefers something perhaps older but with seriyaas houding, get to the Dusty Rebels and The Bombshells tented zone. Good old days and vintage cars mixed with rodded classics and fashion of the ’40s, ’50s and ’60s. Rock ’* Roll’s the order of the day as you make a point of attending the Miss Bombshell Betty pageant, hosted by the always-delightful Blue Haired Betty on Sunday, 3 March at 2pm. Wildly popular last year this was.
For even more dust, get to the 4x4 Challenge Tracks. Saturday’s highlight will be the Extreme 4x4 Challenge, so come and see how these extraordinary 4x4s ramp and jump their way through the highly technical course, or join as a passenger to experience the thrill first-hand.
