We all know that lekker feeling when you slide into the pilot’s seat and look out through a clear windshield over a black and shiny dashboard. Somehow the day just goes better that way.
Then, again, we all know the feeling of peering out over a dusty and grimy dash, wondering if somehow your wife didn’t empty the vacuum cleaner in your car in a fit of pique.
Point one is, it’s great to have a clean car and point two is, plastic degrades and cracks over time, especially in the roasting African sun, so proper care of interior plastic keeps your car in good nick.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- a microfibre cloth,
- a soft interior dash brush,
- some cleaning product and
- a good interior finisher
Now get to work.
Dampen the microfibre cloth and wipe away most of the heavier dust around your car, focusing on the plastic. Then, use the interior cleaner on all surfaces, removing the built-up grime in cracks and on surfaces.
The idea in these two steps is to remove the dirt in stages and gently, so as to prevent scratching.
Now for the finishing touch. Grab your interior shine product and start polishing the plastic.
Tip:
When you do the dash and you are using a spray product, remember to spray onto the cloth as this will stop it from getting on the glass, where it can be challenging to remove.
Also, don’t go for a mirror finish on your dash, the matte finish is there for a reason and that’s so it doesn’t reflect in the windscreen.
Sit back and admire your handiwork, and enjoy that fresh smell, clean interior and shiny dash. Now go get the vacuum cleaner out for the carpets.
