The Jive Culture Shock competition grand finale took place this past Saturday and it was a magnificent display of Cape Town talent.
The show for the first time opened up with the producer and director of the hit online cultural competition, Loukmaan Adams, singing the theme song Come Jive with the Culture Shock, backed by the fabulous Culture Shock Band.
Loukmaan, who is known for collaborating, then called on stage the youngsters from the hit song Wikkel, by RJay and LiL LK, to get the party started.
It was then time for the competition to begin.
The first team on stage, the Clean Team Star Crooners from Hanover Park, once again gave a clean performance.
I have much love for this team as they have come a long way in this competition and represented Hanover Park with pride and dignity.
They have a bright future in the competition because there are two moppie items and their moppie voorsinger - if he gets moulded and guided - will be difficult to beat.
The second team, Alchemy Entertainers, walked on stage with pure confidence and one could see that were well rehearsed in all their items.
The nederlandslied was out of this world, with both lead singers singing so smoothly and relaxed, it moved me to tears and I’m sure many of the public who watch at home too.
The moppies were high-energy with beautiful harmonies, the voorsingers both energetic and experienced, even though they are so young.
The choreography was slick and the props they added brought the moppies even more to life.
When they were done, I could not help, but say to myself, “yoh, this is another level”.
I didn’t think I would see a performance close to that of the team called ACE, but then Hats off PSV came on stage.
The moppie lead singer of this team is just simply in a league of his own.
He completely dominated both moppies with good accompaniment by the singpak.
The English comic at that point was for me the item of the season: clean choreography, difficult harmonies that were still well executed even though the singpak was constantly moving.
It was simply spectacular.
Each team performed a group song to round off the finals.
Of the four group songs, my favourite once again came from Alchemy Entertainers and Hats off PSV, who sang so many minor chords - the level of difficulty was extremely high.
The choreography was mind-blowing, making a statement that the future is here.
Alchemy Entertainers had a lighter sound, less choreography, but sang with a beautiful tone.
Their song choice is what made me smile, as they ended with the biggest trending song on TikTok, Jason Derulo’s Savage Love.
The judges had a tough job in the end, but they only carry 10% of the vote.
So the winners will be decided by the public.
For the Afrikaans moppie, Boeta Maan chose ACE for the win.
For the nederlands, Amien Vardien gave his 10% to ACE too.
Felicia Lesch gave her 10% for the group song to ACE as well.
Terry Fortune gave his 10 % for the juvenile sentimental to Hats off PSV, purely based on the age of the young lady and because she has brought a new element to klops.
In this item, I might have gone with the youngster of ACE as well, but that’s just my opinion.
The English moppie went to PSV with Boeta Maan giving his 10% to them.
Remember, you the public, have the power to decide who wins this competition, not the judges, so go out and purchase your link and watch the 3-hour cultural extravaganza, and then cast your vote.
With that said, Loukmaan does not often produce his own shows, but the one time he did, he produced the biggest online show of the lockdown.
Culture Shock is here to stay and will be around for a long time because it is the future of jingles and karingkels.
Well done to Loukmaan and his team at Oddball.
