The Bonteheuwel Joint Peace forum is calling on mense to assist with a donation for their Ramadaan gift boxes this year.
The community organisation has been doing the boxes for a while now, with a focus on giving poor kids a gift to take them through the final days of the fast, which ends on 15 June.
JPF’s Nadia Mayman Da Grass says any donation is welcome.
“We need people to fill shoe boxes with things people believe kids can use. Our children do not always have the essentials, and we would like them to have at least that,” she says.
“The basic requirements are toothpaste, a toothbrush, a wash cloth, a bar of soap, socks, underwear, age appropriate educational supplies and stationery (wax/pencil crayons, A5 colouring books/notebooks, rulers, pens), toys and a packet of sweets,” Mayman said.
Where possible, donors are asked to cover the boxes with wrapping paper and also indicate whether it’s for a girl or a boy, and what age.
The community is asked to add any extras like gloves, hats, scarves, caps, hair accessories, baby blankets and towels.
“We will, with our own contributions and those received from the community, be packing our own Ramadaan shoe boxes as well,” Nadia adds.
Register as a donor by sending an email to [email protected].
You can either make your own boxes or sponsor items.
Drop-off points are at the JPF Office at the Multi-Purpose Centre in Bonteheuwel during office hours, and at 14 Amandel Road after hours.
Donations accepted until Thursday.
