A Bonteheuwel businesswoman has launched the area’s very first coffee shop.
Aneesah Seale, 36, is the owner of ‘That Cake Lady’ who has been serving up delicious sweet treats across Cape Town for many years.
Last month she launched ‘That Coffee Shop’ in her driveway, serving breakfasts from koesisters to pancakes and flapjacks, with a variety of fancy coffees, teas and milkshakes.
The Daily Voice went to pop in at her home at 13 Firethorn Street, where neighbours were coming in and out to enjoy their breakfast.
The café has a warm atmosphere, complemented by wooden tables and chairs while the menu is written on a big green chalkboard.
Among the top hits are Aneesah’s famous carrot cake, chocolate brownies and red velvet cake.
The married mom of four says she has been cooking since she was nine years old, and the very first meal she cooked was roti and curry “which totally flopped, but set the tone for the rest of my life”, she says.
“I watched my mother and Jamie Oliver. I love Siba’s Table and Anna Ohlson. The idea is always to cook simply using as little ingredients and time as possible. Everything our mother’s made, just made simpler,” she says.
Aneesah is known for her stunning special occasion creations and makes wedding cakes, confirmation cakes and birthday cakes.
She now has three staff members and two of her kids, Ebrahim, 18, and Ameera, 14, are earning pocket money helping out their mom.
“People pop in before work and grab coffee and a meal. It has been a blessing and I cannot wait for what the future holds,” Aneesah says proudly.
Also on the menu are burgers and fries, a variety of sandwiches, spaghetti bolognaise, butter chicken and eggs benedict and buttery croissants.
“I am proud of what we have been able to achieve, but it would not be possible without my family, the Almighty, my team, my friends and neighbours,” Aneesah adds.
