Just in case we forget, while this is the season to be jolly, it is also the silly season. I have already encountered numerous reckless drivers on the roads; impatient guys who push you off the road and race on ahead, just so they can get to the next traffic light two seconds before you do.
These are the entitled few who don’t believe that they cause accidents and will blow up in your face if you try to reason with them and ask them to slow down. It really isn’t worth the effort.
So please just be careful out there. Ending up in hospital in this time of Covid, with wards overflowing and staff stretched to their limits, should not be an option.
These are very different times with very dire consequences, so stay paranoid about Covid please.
We have lived through a reality that truly is stranger than fiction; a collective trauma that will stay with us for many years to come.
Kids are going to learn about 2020 in the history and social anthropology classes of the future.
Sadly it will include the many deaths that just keep on increasing. In fact, I think we should rename Murphy’s Law to simply be known as “2020” going forward.
I don’t think any of us can wait for midnight on Thursday to see the back of this terrible year. But even then, we will have to soldier on for a little while longer.
So until then, have as awesome a time as it is safe to have. I will leave you with one more promising omen; according to the Chinese calendar, 2021 is the Year of the Ox. And the symbol this time is a metal ox. I hope that is a metaphor for humanity’s resilience.
