Last weekend, I realised my biggest issue with shows like Decorex is that my house isn’t nearly as nice as it could and should be.
Being a bit of a homebody with house-pride issues, I love going to these shows to browse and drool over the things I can’t afford.
Don’t get me wrong; I live a relatively good life, for which I am grateful.
I have also realised that I don’t have enough cash in the bank to realise my décor desires and renovation aspirations.
But there’s one thing that I do have; and that is a stubborn will to achieve the impossible.
So I have decided that I am going to renovate my house with as much DIY enthusiasm as I can muster.
My first port of call is to admit that I know absolutely nothing about building or renovating houses, so I’m going to have to learn.
Luckily, I enjoy learning new things and I have no fear of failure (because I’ve discovered that that’s where all the best lessons are learned).
So, over the next few weeks, I’m going to teach myself as much as possible about extending and renovating houses.
And then I’m going to learn how to crook the system - do it by spending as little money as possible.
I’ve always wanted to live in my dream house, but I’ve always locked the idea away in the back of my mind, fearing that I’ll never truly achieve that dream.
I reckon it’s time for me to give it a test. If I fail, then at least I’ll know that I’ve tried.
But hopefully I’ll get it right, and maybe even inspire a few of you to give it a shot.
