Close to 2.5 million South Africans visited voting stations during the final voter registration weekend to either register for the first time, register in a new voting district or update address details, Electoral Commission of SA (IEC) chairman Glen Mashinini announced on Tuesday.
Mashinini, fellow commissioners and chief electoral officer Sy Mamabolo were briefing journalists in Cape Town.
Mamabolo said 700 000 voters were added to the voters roll.
“The voters roll, as it stands after the registration weekend is 26 727 921,” he said.
