Manenberg police are appealing for information after the body of a 52-year-old woman was found on a veldtjie in Welcome Estate on Saturday.
Manenberg police station commander, Brigadier Enolium Joseph, says officers were called to 4th Avenue shortly after 4am where residents found the woman lying face down in the grass.
According to pictures taken at the scene, the woman’s pants were partially pulled down to reveal her panty.
But police say at this stage there is no indication of a sexual assault.
“The body had no superficial wounds on it and there seems to be no signs of a struggle present on the scene, therefore no foul play is expected at present.”
He says detectives traced the woman’s family to a house in Heideveld, where they were told that the woman often went missing and suffered epileptic seizures.
“The family informed detectives that she often left home for several days, but always returned so they were not alarmed when she was not at home.
“She suffered from epilepsy and often had seizures, so the detectives are trying to establish what led up to her death and whether or not her medical condition was the reason.
“The forensic reports are being compiled and an inquest docket has been opened”
Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call Manenberg police on 021 699 9400 or Crime Stop 08600 10111.
