Northern Cape police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Dimakatso Mooi said Carlin Sara Smith, 31, was sentenced on Wednesday, two years after her arrest.
“Smith was arrested on 15 August 2015 after she stabbed her nephew during an argument the two had. The victim was stabbed several times on the neck and later succumbed to his wounds at a local hospital in Kimberley.”
Mooi said two years of the sentence were suspended for five years.
In a separate case, the Sutherland Regional Court convicted Mervin Nelson, 31, of attempted murder for stabbing a man. He was sentenced to five years direct imprisonment.
The Cluster Commander of Namakwa, Brigadier Francis Hender commended the investigating officer on both cases, Sergeant Elton Klein, for a meticulous investigation that ensured the criminals faced the might of the law: “You do the crime; you do the time”, said Hender.
