One of the people fingered in the murder of six-month-old Zahnia Woodward Tuesday entered into a plea and sentencing agreement with the State.
Simaney Kindo admitted to hiding the VW Golf used in the drive-by shooting, which took place on 30 December 2016.
She was sentenced to four years in prison.
According to the State’s summary of facts, suspects Christopher September, Larry Johnson, Taswill Kriel and Morné May had been driving in Johnson’s VW Golf in Ocean View in the late afternoon of 30 December 2016.
Each of the men were allegedly armed and opened fire on a group of people sitting on a pavement near a local park.
Zahnia was shot in the head, while her dad Bradley Robyn was shot in the thigh.
Four other people were also shot and injured during the shooting while six others escaped uninjured.
According to Kindo, Mirriam Johnson - Larry Johnson’s mother - asked her to find people to remove the car from Luntu Street, Masiphumelele on New Year’s Eve as police were looking for the vehicle and it would “get them into trouble” if found.
She also took off the rims to change the car’s appearance.
“Although I was not fully aware of the specific crime the vehicle was used for, it came to my attention at a later stage that it was used during a shooting incident wherein Zahnia Woodward was shot and killed. I continued hiding or concealing the whereabouts of the vehicle,” she admitted.
Kindo, already a convicted murderer in a previous case according to the National Prosecuting Authority, was arrested on 21 July 2017 after the car was discovered.
Cindy said Tuesday: “I am satisfied with this sentence.”
