The names of drag queen and whistle-blower Queeny Madikizela-Malema and Cape Town Cluster Commander Major-General Jeremy Vearey came up as Advocate Bruce Hendricks was conducting his cross-examination on Wednesday.
Sylvano Hendricks, aka Queeny, was mentioned in a question posed to investigating officer Colonel Charl Kinnear in the extortion and intimidation case of Nafiz Modack, Colin Booysen and three others at Cape Town Magistrates’ Court.
Queeny is also involved in a court case in which Son copy editor, Janice Ohlson, and businessman, Munier Abrahams, have been charged with 140 counts of fraud.
The two allegedly issued fraudulent working schedules to the Department of Correctional Services for Queeny, while employing her as a writer.
Queeny had been paroled after doing time for fraud.
Ohlson and Abrahams are out on R5 000 bail.
Hendricks asked whether Kinnear knew anything about Queeny.
“Do you know anything about Sylvano Hendricks, aka Queeny, who implicated Major-General Jeremy Vearey to Dan Plato about a murder?” Hendricks asked.
“Yes, I know about it,” Kinnear responded.
“Do you think there’s any truth to this?” Hendricks questioned.
“The matter was investigated and people were instructed to be arrested but not Major- General Vearey,” Kinnear said.
Hendricks also queried the alleged relationship between Vearey and alleged 28s gang boss Ralph Stanfield.
“There are allegations Vearey has a relationship with Ralph Stanfield, care to comment?” Hendricks asked.
“Old allegations,” Kinnear said.
Hendricks also asked about threats: “Do you have knowledge that Vearey threatened my client? He informed Mr Booysen that if he threatens his captain, that he, Vearey, a former Umkonto we Sizwe member, will do whatever it takes to protect his own.”
“I had no knowledge of this,” Kinnear testified.
