One of the country’s top DJs has heard the heartfelt plea of a homeless rapper to appear on his radio show.
Last week, Koubi Roderick Mathese, aka Kroeskop, spoke to the Daily Voice about creating no fewer than five albums while living on the streets, and that his biggest wish was to meet Ready D and appear on his radio show on Good Hope FM to showcase his skills.
The Grand Master read Koubi’s story in the Daily Voice and immediately reached out to the paper to get in touch with him.
Ready D, real name Deon Daniels, tells the Daily Voice: “A family friend asked if I saw the story about Koubi in the Daily Voice, she circled the section of Koubi’s dream in the paper and sent me a picture.
“I went out to buy the paper myself and I decided to make contact with Venecia who wrote the story and got his details.
“I felt like Koubi could be the next best thing to hit Cape Town, who knows?
“What I love about him is that he’s not using his situation as an excuse, his passion for music is his bottom line.”
The 37-year-old Koubi says he landed on the streets as a child after his sickly ouma could no longer look after him.

He did not have a relationship with either of his parents and with no direction in life, he had to learn to fend for himself.
Koubi, who is single and has no kids, says music kept his mind occupied and is his safe haven.
“Music keeps me grounded and it’s my escape from my circumstances,” he said.
“I am very proud to have performed for mayor Dan Plato and Alderman JP Smith at an event at a shelter already.”
Koubi, who is staying at the City’s Safe Space shelter in the CBD, has recorded five albums with music that he’s written himself by making use of the City’s libraries.
Ready D says he believes Koubi deserves a chance to showcase his talent.
“I haven’t heard him perform yet, I just thought that giving him that platform would be great.
“I sent Koubi an email asking him if I can arrange for him to be on The Ready D Show, he was keen and agreed.
“He will be showing off his skills live on The Ready D Show on Thursday at 9pm on Good Hope FM.”
Koubi has written a new song for his radio debut and says he can’t wait to show the world what he’s made of.
