A group of skelms overpowered security guards collecting cash in Kraaifontein over the weekend and escaped with a bag full of money.
Shortly after 9am, shots were heard at the Spar in Brighton Road as the skelms opened fire on the guards aboard a Fidelity cash in transit vehicle.
According to a source on the scene, the two Fidelity guards were exiting Spar when they were approached by three men who demanded they hand over the cash.
“The four men were inside a blue Ford Fiesta and as the guards came out, three of them jumped out and went to the guards.
“One of the men was armed and they fired five shots, but the guard was not hit. They took the cash bag and ran away as one of the guards shot once at their vehicle.”
The source says the skelms sped away, hitting a curb and they drove into Milton Street.
“But they obviously don’t know the area and drove into a cul-de-sac where they abandoned their vehicle and fled with the cash.”
