A skelm who stole a microphone from a mosque just before Jumu’ah prayers on Friday was piemped by his own family.
The man was caught on CCTV cameras at the podium of the Colorado Park Masjid in Rosewood Drive in Mitchells Plain at 12.15pm.
Pictures and video footage of the theft went viral on social media where many people, including his own family, recognised him.
It is understood the man used to be a music producer, but became addicted to drugs.
He may not be identified until he has been charged.
In the first video, a 28-second clip, the dief is seen entering the mosque and walking towards the mighrab (a semi-circular niche in the front of a mosque from where the imam leads the prayers).
The dief is dressed in blue jeans, a striped red T-shirt and socks.
He checks around the mighrab, and looks around before removing the microphone. He rolls up the cable and leaves the area. In the second video, he can be seen leaving.
On Sunday, a family member of the dief posted on the Facebook group, Waar Brandit Inni Plain, that they handed him over to authorities.

“The guy is my nephew and, as promised, we as a family will not accept such behaviour from one of our own in our communities because I for one am against all this s*** going on in our community.
“Our family has got hold of the Masjid committee, neighbourhood watch and we have handed him over to the necessary people.”
The relative added: “He is not a laaitie to act like this so he must suffer the consequences of his own actions.”
Nadeem Stouffers, from City Wide Secure, a security company in the area, says they took the suspect, handing him to Lentegeur SAPS.
“When we got to the address, he first said the mosque owed him money for a job he had done, but later he admitted to what he had done,” Stouffers said.
